At the University Of Cincinnati, in Ohio, it is a very big and Busy Hospital and there is a lot to learn and do, but, if you like Critical care you may want to think twice! A large group of us were hired to staff the newly renovated MICU and all we have done (mostly) is to staff the floors!!! I don't know about you....but...I have been in Critical care for a number of years and I prefer Critical Care Units! Well...they told us that we were the first to float (which is okay); however, we would only be expected to staff the ICU'S and stepdown ICU's and Emergency! The person that interviewed me , made a point of saying that she understands the importance, for CCRN to stay within the ICU areas and assured me that I would not have to float to Med/Surg floors! Guess what??? I float to regular floors having 6-7 patients more than I work in the Unit that I was hired in! And..we float between shifts going to different places after 4 hours here....then you go somewhere else! They say it is because of the Union and their staff has preference over us! Bottom line.....they lied, and we didn't have it in writing! Unfortunately for me, I signed a six month contract! But it has been sooo bad, that two travelers actually walked out! Now I don't condone, that (walking off the job), but honestly, I have personally felt their pain! Their answer???...Sorry....we have a Union and our staff (FLOAT POOL) get the ICU assignments over you! Sorry!
The Nurses, the Doctors, are all great to work with! The work itself is good...but the constant being pulled here for 4 hours and there for 4 hours! Don't go there if you are looking for a Critical care experience! Or get it in writing!! Just thought, you'd like to know! Brenda Renae`Smith
