I am doing research for a school paper. The AAP recommends all infants born at less than 37 weeks gestation be observed in their own car seat by an approptiate hospital staff person before hospital discharge to monitor for possible apnea, bradycardia, or oxygen desaturation. A few, widely scattered hospitals have policies in place, some even have entire car seat programs dedicated to testing, providing car seats to those without, monitoring for recalls, and assisting/checking car seat placement in the car. I am trying to get a sense of what the standard of practice is around the country to aid in developing and implementing a mock procedure for car seat challenges in this population. Thanks for your input.
