Hi! I have been working around the Medical Industry for Years! (I am almost 50 yrs old). I am a business owner, former Pharmacuetical Patient Screener,
Nurses Aide...etc.
I want to become an LPN. I live 3 hours east of Columbus, Ohio.
I want to find a satisfactory school. I would also need advice on what kind of
liability insurance should be carried by nurses.
Any Advice on anything?? I appreciate your Input.. (you all may think I am too old to start into Nursing, so let me know that, too!)

Many Thanks!

I am 36 and I am already finding nursing much too physically and mentally demanding. I am hoping that I will not be doing this in 10-15yrs. If you get your LPN, work in a doctors office. I am finding that nursing homes are piling on more and more patients to nurses workloads and personally, I do not think it is safe. After all, it is YOUR license on the line, not theirs. Many hospitals are not hiring LPNs, but I hear that that is changing with the nursing shortage. At least you will have job security with your LPN!!

Hello Olympus,
By all means, go to LPN. I am 52 as of 5/22/04 & I start pre-requisite courses aug. 2004 & I'm thrilled about it! My supervisors are all glad I'm doing it. I work at a Veterans facility, as an L.N.A. I have to maintain 40 hours wk. (home, bills u know the routine) but doing pre-req's. helps on the core class hours. My employer will work with scheduling with me; So far my best idea is mon/thurs. off (school) & do sat/sun. till done. In the end, it will be less physical for me, I'll have more say in resident care & that's my goal. Wk. ends are the worst staffing, 50%. But how badly do you want to achieve something...My husband says he's proud of me. Good luck Olympus.

Congrats on considering starting Nursing School. As far as being too old---There is no such thing! Age is not a factor. I just graduated from Nursing School last month and the oldest memeber of our class was 67. The best part about it is she did fantastic through school. I think non-traditional students are more focused on their goals and usually do better. I commend you for going back. Nursing school is tough but mostly I found it to be more mind games then anything else. You just need to take one day at a time and stay focused on your goals. Don't let any crazy nursing instructor tell you that you can't do it!!!!! Try not to look at the whole picture at once. (It can really make you crazy) If there is anything I can do to help make your life easier e-mail me I'll do anything I can to help.
Good luck to you and Happy Nursing School Hunting,
Mandy in PA
