Just wondering if there are any nurses out there currently practicing in the field of forensics. What are your thougths/comments about this evolving field?

I work in the midwest and we have SANE nurses on staff - they deal with forensics. Is this what you are talking about?

I'm glad you asked that question. I'm a Nursing I student and just saw a bulletin board at school that had forensic nursing listed. I didn't even know it existed nd would LOVE to hear more about it.

dlamvrn - currently working for a medical examiner's office, most of my time's spent on scene. Talk to your jurisdiction's ME Office and find out what kind of background/education they require you to have and if they hire forensic nurses at all! It is a very new field and highly competitive. Unfortunately, the system is not yet standardized and it seems that each jurisdiction has a different system. Check out your surrounding area ME/Coroner offices too and see what their requirements are. Good luck.

Hi,

I have a friend who is a Forensic Nurse. She actually owns her own company and contracts to different hospitals. Forensic Nursing is an interesting field. You work with local law enforcement on various types of crimes ie rapes, murders etc. There is an ad on this site you can view to help you understand more about the field or just type in Forensic Nursing in google. Good luck.
Success stems from hard work, devotion, and the ability to learn from one's mistakes.

Love Forensic shows both fiction and reality. Shows we have above intelligence. Curious about duties as a nurse in this field. Would like more to be in a lab situation rather than in the field.

can someone please set me straight here, my understanding of forensic nursing is within a mental health setting working with Mentally ill people with a criminal back ground, some of these replies refer to working in a lab????
