A New Orleans grand jury refused to indict Anna Pou, the doctor accused of second-degree murder in the deaths of hospital patients during Hurricane Katrina. Pou said, "All of us need to remember the magnitude of human suffering that occurred in the city of New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina so we can be assured that this never happens again and that no health care professional should ever be falsely accused in a rush to judgment."... NEW ORLEANS -- Louisiana's attorney general, denied an indictment against a doctor he alleged murdered patients at a New Orleans hospital days after Hurricane Katrina hit, asked a judge Wednesday to unseal documents that he says back up his claims.
Legal experts said Attorney General Charles Foti's request was an unusual move aimed at justifying his pursuit of charges against Dr. Anna Pou, whom a grand jury refused to indict Tuesday.
"Why on earth would he do that other than to advance his own political interest," Loyola University law professor Dane Ciolino said. "He's apparently looking for public vindication for his actions all along."...
