Hi,
I work in a long term care facility with one of our residents who has mrsa in her lungs, she was treated with vancomycin in the hospital, we still need to wait on following sputum test results to see if negative. Anyways in the meantime this cheap facility is out of masks and won't order more yet. What infection control measures should I take. My DOC says just universal precautions (hand washing) anyway should I be concerned about catching it or possibly being a carrier, if talking to close to her and a droplet from her cough gets in my lungs?
Any info, suggestions, there's not alot of info on mrsa in lungs on internet.
Please and thank-you,
Butterfly

wow butterfly sounds pretty crazy to me. i would insist that i have some form of protection for respiratory MRSA. i tried to look up suggestions on the CDC but didnt come up for anything regarding Resp. MRSA. but hey i think you can go to a place like walgreens and get your own masks and use it as a tax write off. sheesh. also look up the policy in you facilty on isolation precautions for Resp. MRSA. obviously those masks were there before for a reason. maybe needs to be turned in to the state or something? good luck.
