I am a recent hire RN in the state of California to begin working in February. I really want to get a small tattoo on my foot, and obviously it wouldn´t be an issue as far as appearance goes, since it would be unseen at work. My concern is, can I get a new tattoo as a nurse and pass health standards? For example, I know that you cannot give blood for the Red Cross until something like 6-12 months after getting a tattoo.
Does anyone know the rules in California regarding this? I would ask my hospital, but it seems like an odd question to ask as a brand newly hired nurse!! I was hoping someone could give me the regulations on this.
Thanks for any info.

I got a tatoo on my ankle a few months back. I am a student nurse and my nurse manager and teacher said there was no problem but you should cover the tatoo up with a bandaid until it forms a scab that way if you splash something on your scrubs it won't go into your tatoo. Then after that its fine open to air.
