I believe travel nurses are an important part of nursing. They fill the gaps that might otherwise not be. It is sad to say that many nurses do not feel this way. Keep focused on your work. Be helpful and if any problems do come up call your agency right away! Chances are that if it is real bad, like staff nurses have run off travel nurses before, your agency may need to talk with that units manager to solve that problem. I hope your next assignment is better. ph34r.gif

I work in a busy ER where we have been using agancy nursing for about a year because of the nursing shortage. Some are great and some are not. Some come with an attitude saying I will work this and i wont work that they refuse all the holidays and weekends and are getting payed much more than the regular full timers. The problem is they brag all the time about it. Doesnt make for a friendly enviroment for agancy at my work place. Also they call in leaving the regular staff mandated for double shifts.I guess what Im trying to say is think of yourself as one of the fulltime staff members while you are at what ever facility you are at. Im sure all will work out. Dont get me wrong I have nothing against agancy nursing, like I said before some are good and some are not.

I've been traveling on and off for 7 years and the one thing that has helped me is realizing that I am there to ease their staffing shortage. I've worked with travelers who do alot of the things that ER Nurse talked about and they are generally treated very poorly by the staff. Best suggestion is to step in, do your job, and be willing to help each other. In all the hospitals I've been to, I've left all of them with great friends and wonderful experiences...good luck!
