Hello everyone!

My name is Harsha Ravi, and I am a design student undertaking a product design course in Monash university in Australia. As part of a major thesis project this year, I am considering developing a new device for medical aides and nurses to help them manage multiple medications and prescriptions in geriatric care.

The goal is to alleviate the number of errors that occur in the way of mixing up patients accidentally and also their medications. The device I envision is an aid that uses digital displays to ensure that the right patient has the right medication at the right time. Essentially, a more refined pager/PDA system.

The prodict would operate within a wider system involving a wearable product for the patient that through RFID (radio frequency) technology allows a synchronisation of medication updates so everyone is in the loop. For example, if a patient recieves a test result showing that they should discontinue one of their daily medications, their product will tell them to stop taking the medicine or to contact the nruse, etc. The nurse could also contact the patient to inform them, etc. The project is in its early (ish) stages so things can be refined.

After researching the current nursing scene, it is apparent that such a product could potentially have an impact in the world of medication and nursing. The product can be for travelling and resident nurses.

I would appreciate any feedback on the project from this forum, and would also love to know if there are other needs of nurses that have been overlooked by design. If you have a need to make your life that much more simpler, I'd appreciate it if you could inform me so I assess the issue and cater to it!

Appreciate your time!

Regards,
Harsha
