I have just started my meds. study. On my first list is something called "Bromptons Cocktail (Cancer Patient). Not listed in my drug reference, can't find much info. on line. What I do know is that this is some type of mixture of drugs used for cancer patients - I believe includes heroin - that is not used anymore. What my form wants is : Trade name - Generic - Classification - Action - Side Effects - Nursing Consideration - Route and Dosage.

I would appreciate any help!

Thanks all! Jan/spn

Hi !

Bromptonīs Cocktail is a mixture from some different components. Other terms of Bromptons cocktail are : Mixtura pro moribundo or Mixtura pro euthanasia euphoriens.

It was used in the 70th (and most in Great Britain) as a pain reliever for terminal cancer patients.
The mixture can be made in different ways, with different content, so you can not find side effects or general affects for all of them. This depends on the content.

In the original mixture there was following in it :

Cocaine, alcohol, chloroform, Diamorphine

E.g. Cicely Saunders prepared that cocktail with morphine and Gin - so you see, no rule to describe effect and side effect.

Greetings

DIrk
