I started P/T in Accident & Emergency today - I had been casual there since December.
I was P/T on a small med/surg ward.
I have always prefered A&E. The hospital is only small, and anything serious is transfered, but is still a very busy place.
The med/surg ward is like a geriatric ward most of the time, and it gets the staff down. I had had enough of demented geriatrics and nursing home dumps, so I applied for A&E.
Admissions have to be out of the A&E dept in under 8 hours, otherwise the superviser has to explain why.
And the A&E staff can wear scrubs as well - so have ordered some - they are not cheap. A&E is the only dept that can wear them. Blue colour - top and bottom. I have never worked somewhere that allows scrubs before.
Was constant today but not busy.
The place is so short staffed. Plenty of shifts.
What is it like where you work ?

Glad to hear you like your new position. In the US, 'A &E' would be our ER or Emergency Dept. I liked that kind of work when I was younger but now enjoy a slower pace.
I work in a combined ICU and telemetry ward in a rural hospital.(not rural compared to Oz I know...LOL...you folks REALLY have rural as in outback... LOL) I am new to this facility, and it has a special state designation of a 'critical access hospital' so we have a lot of extra rules we must follow that are strange to me, but ..I'm learning!
I am also not accustomed to being in a monitored unit where the turnover is as fast...its rather aggravating for me, because we have soooo much admission paperwork, teaching, QI stuff to do...it gets overwhelming.
How is the paperwork over in Oz?? I have a feeling this may be a universal problem all nurses face...LOL!!
Success is the best revenge.
