Because having a baby has become so sensationalized on TV with baby story and all, everyone wants to be part of the action. On my unit we allow 4 visitors per room including the s.o./support person. We allow them to switch in and out during laboring. We try to keep from changing visitors out during the pushing and delivery process to provide privacy but that doesn't work. Visitors and patients sometimes get really ticked and say that the other hospitals in our area would let as many folks in as the patient wanted (which I know is not true). What are your visiting policies?

HI,

I WORK IN THE ICU AND WE HAVE A STRICT POLICY CONCERNING VISITORS.. WE ALLOW 2 AT A TIME EXCEPT IF THE PATIENT IS DYING.. THEN WE MAKE EXCEPTIONS..

Success stems from hard work, devotion, and the ability to learn from one's mistakes.

Most women don't want tons of people in the room anyway, the most I've seen is maybe six or seven, and three of them were sitting of to the side out of the way. Not everyone is interested in seeing a baby crown. We usually let them monitor their vistors unless the amount is ridiculously excessive, then we politely tell them for the safety of the mother and baby I have to ask to wait in the waiting room.

I work in a teaching hospital, so it's kind of hard to tell the pt. they can have three visitors when we have 7 interns waiting in the wings.

Isn't that the truth.

When I had my first son, I had five people in there (mostly inlaws) and it was miserable! I had my second son at a different hospital, which only allows 2 people in the room. I ended up with a C-section anyway, so it was just me and my husband, which was better. I think most hospitals in my area limit visitors to 2 people during the entire labor process.
