I have purchased three different stetoscopes in the past three years and none of them seem to be perfect. I seem to have problems hearing through them. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good stethoscope that will work for someone that has trouble hearing?

HI NALL,
HERE IS A SITE I FOUND FOR YOU ..
Ultrascopes Company Website
UltraScope Stethoscopes
http://www.netuniform.com/product_ultrasco...e&kw=ultrascope
But purchase through a retailer (use Google - seems to find quite a few) and you'll probably find a much better price.
THESE STETHASCOPES ARE USED BY EMTS DUE TO ALL THE NOISE THEY HAVE TO OVERCOME IN THE BACK OF THE AMBULANCES.. ALSO I HEARD HEWLETT PACKARD HAS AN ELECTRONIC STETHASCOPE THAT IS GREAT AS WELL...
HOPE THIS HELPS....................................NAWLINSGIRL

Success stems from hard work, devotion, and the ability to learn from one's mistakes.

This is exactly the question I had! I am almost finished with my first year of LPN school, and I am embarrased to say I still can't get the BP correctly. Usually in class I am fine, but in the field or at home I just can't hear anything. I currently use a Littman model stethoscope; do you think that could be the problem? Has anyone else had any problems with these?
I would love any suggestions anyone could give me; I am on the MedSurg unit this week, and I really want to do it right!

I have a littman. I like it alot, but i like it better with the soft ear tips rather than the hard ones i am using because my stupid dog ate my soft one. The soft ones seem to conform to my hear canal better allowing for better sound. Also if i am having a really hard time hearing i try to reduce the sound in the room ie telling family to please be quiet/exit the room, having the patient turn the volume down on the television. I also had lots of trouble in the begining...it does truely take practice.

Nall,
I had the same problem and it's now solved. I got an ADC Adscope online. I can hear better through it than a Littman. One of our doctors has a hearing problem and uses one of those electronic/digital ones. One day he didn't have his with him so he borrowed mine. After using it he came back to the nurses station all excited and said could hear better out of mine than his own.
Mine is the cardiology one--with a one-sided diaphram--no bell. Lung sounds are crystal clear.
