was just curious if im the only one who is addicted to medical shows too? I love greys anatomy, and used to watch ER but now i work on thursdays and since Mark died i havent been all that into it. And then there are the medical detective shows and that kind of stuff that i like to watch too.

I used to love St. Elsewhere years ago. I've never gotten into ER or CSI....I should go and catchup via DVD, to see what I've been missing.

One of the lead characters in "Lost" is a doctor.

I like the Discovery channel documentaries and LOVE CSI. The other medical shows are too disrespectful to the nursing profession, IMO, thus I will not watch them. And by the way, showing docs doing what nurses do, and taking credit, is a disrespectful lie IMO.

I'm a nurse who wishes to hold the mass media accountable for their inaccurate portrayals of the nursing role, and their part in propogating stereotypes about nurses...so I like writing letters challenging shows to do better jobs! smile.gif

Thanks Aussie-Margaret...I will check it out...as I too love the realistic shows. I also liked China Beach and even the old Emergency shows...as they at least were realistic about the nurse role. Dixie (from Emergency) was my inspiration to be a nurse!

I tire of watching TV nurses drop hearts on the floor in surgery, steal drugs, spread STD's , sleep with any man in sight, and basically be either ignored or be shown in a servitude/janitor-like role. So many patients believe these shows, which portray nurses as brainless nympho bimbos.. .sad.gif

i agree with the inaccurate portrayal of nurses in shows, not only that we are bimbos but that we are mean old hags too. i also hate the fact that they give lots of credit to doctors. but hey, i love greys anatomy and truely they are one of the worst at degrading nurses. one of the first shows has them calling each other nurses as an insult, and yes i was upset about it, but im still adicted to the show. but ive also found my self saying that is so unrealistic, everyone knows you cant shock asystole, and you arent going to have a rhythm no mater what you do if there isnt any blood in the system. and the poor copd-er that dies quickly...yeah right like that happens. i guess its just nice to watch something with a not so real portrayal every now and then to realize that i do know a little bit after all that schooling.

I love CSI..the origional. Recently I have been watching House. I like it, but where are the nurses??? Also, I have found it to be technically inaccurate at times. i.e. a pt having a stroke as a complication from a DVT. I also like Scrubs. It gives me a good laugh.
