Hey Everyone!

I'm a new mom and looking to find a way to earn some extra income while I'm at home with my son. I'm working PT in an ER and Same Day Surgery Center. I've been looking all over the internet and asking around about ideas. The only advice I've received so far is looking into Medical Transcribing. Is that my only option? I'm only looking to make $400-$500 a month. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks!

Beth

Hi Everyone,
My name is Joyce from the Philippines. I'm a nurse graduated last March 1994. I'm happily married and have 2 kids. I worked as a staff nurse for 7 years in one of the private hospital in my place and stopped after I got married, Dec 2001 was my last hospital exposure (I'm a full time housewife now). My family and I will be migrating soon in California I'm applying for a job there in an acute facility care somewhere in Southern California. We are waiting for the medical examination and interview from the US embassy soon. I will be taking the NCLEX in California ( I don't know my schedule yet), I already mailed my application to my agency in Torrance. I hope you guys can help me through PRAYERS,some TIPS from nurses who just took the exam and if you have REVIEWERS not in use pls don't throw it away if it's ok to borrow pls lend me those....hehehhe... ya! honestly I want to pass the exam in the first try so that I can bring my family earlier than 6 mos here in the US. I would like to thank NAWLINSGIRL for inviting me here in the LOUNGE. I have no idea where to have the chatroom, so I'm happy to be here. You can e-mail me: joycealmenario@yahoo.com. God Bless you all nurses and More Power---jtac_an

tirpakrn - one of my friends used to work in Dialysis.

He said another RN who worked in dialysis had a thriving home business on the side, and used to pinch all the consumables from work, so he didn't have to pay for them !!
Used to do private dialysis pts in their homes.

Seriously - The only thing I can suggest it word-of-mouth home nursing - cash in hand work

Used to some here years ago - looking after a 94 year old overnight - paid $220 a night cash in hand - just had to be there overnight and could sleep in the next room, and just had to check every couple of hours overnight.

HeHe - sorry this is all I can think of !!!!!

Do you sew? If so how about making marsupial pouches for JP drains for mastectomy patients, stethoscope covers to keep stethoscope tubing pliable etc.

I have heard of many nurse entrenreneurs these days who start their own businesses, some work only from the home (wellness and triage by telephone only) I know others who have started 'Nurse Checkup Call' services where they call elderly and disabled in their homes to check up and offer nurse advice totally by phone.

I used to be self employed and would contract with insurance companies to audit medical bills for them. Many of these could be done from home(mailed to you) if you have a bean counter's mindset. wink.gif.

I know some nurses who send a card to all the local med malpractice attornies offering to review their hospital charts for them and put everything in 'plain language' for them to understand.

Check out some other nurse sites (do a search) and look in the Entrepreneur threads. Good luck!
