My name is Dirk and I live in Germany !
My home is nearby the swiss border, and I cross every day to work in a big hospital in switzerland.
There I work on ICU - 16 bed - surgical and medical patients.
I am 35 years old, married and have the 2 sweetest daughters of the world.
I know, that is, what every father would say about his daughters, but in my case it is really true.
Greetings
Dirk

My name is Deb and I work in Washington State, USA. I work critical care and have been a RN for 24 yrs. I am married and have a grown son who is out on his own, so its an 'empty nest' for my hubby and me! I live way out in the country which is what we prefer...don't like our neighbors too close...LOL!
OK...now who's next??

My name is Melanie. Im orginally from New Orleans Louisiana, but currently living in San Francisco. I worked in a level one trauma ICU for approx 9 yrs. Then, I decided I needed a break from that job , so I became a travel nurse approximately 4.5 yrs ago. I am fully enjoying the benefits of being a traveler but I do miss home and my old job.
I am currently single, but I take care of my Mom and some family members that were very unfortunate to loose their homes in hurricane Katrina. We lost a few family members to that hurricane and are currently attempting to pick up the pieces from that loss.
It is really a pleasure to chat with each and everyone of you here on the Nursechat site. I hope you enjoy this site as much as I do. We hope we can continue to make it a better for all of us in the medical field. Its important for us to have a place where we can just vent about the good and bad experiences of our career. So, I hope you use this avenue to the fullest.

Hello all,
My name is Andrea
I've been a nurse for almost 3 years now. I stared out as an LPN and am now an RN/BSN.
I work in Colorado as a float nurse, so I get to experience it all working in the areas of med/surg, ortho/neuro, cardiac, pediatrics, oncology, rehab, skilled nursing/geriatrics, psych, and post partum/gyn.
I have 2 kids, a four year old daughter and a ten month old son.
I have been married to my husband for almost 4 years now.
I am helping my mother out as she is in the middle of a divorce with my dad, and between all that and my kiddos, I stay pretty busy.
I hope to get to meet some nice peeps here and make some friendships to somewhat rely on here as the world of chat elsewhere has become a horrible world of perverts. Its nice to meet all of you and I look forward to talking with everyone personally.

I feel like I am an intruder as the link says - chat for general nursing and I am not a Nurse working in General Nursing, although I did many years ago. I am presently a psychiatric nurse. I wonder if there are others in the forum who also work in psychiatry?
Interests in therapy (CBT, NLP, Counselling and other approaches), students mentoring, spiritual matters in nursing and client care.
Hope you do not mind my intrusion as there seems to be no psychiatric forums for nursing that I am aware of and maybe we can learn from each other.

Bonne regarding your question; I think the numerous nursing websites on the net are a great inexpensive place to get your word out!
I am an old diploma RN (LPN first) and have tried to finish my degree several times during my career span. I wish there was a movement to help diploma nurses go on without the frustrations of having to repeat many courses due to the baccalaureate program's unwillingness to accept our education and our success without their degree. Because my college credits were many years ago, many had to be repeated. After working towards my BSN part time for years, (through CLEP, ACT, and Regents/Excelsior) I finally gave up...every year extra courses were added..the last straw was when I was told I needed several basic math courses (college level) so I could eventually take statistics. I said enough is enough...too many roadblocks!!
Anyways, nice to hear from everyone on this thread...I doubt there are any outsiders...all seem welcome here and I hope to get to know everyone!

Deb, My name is Cathy, and I am currently working on an Adolescent psych unit (at the world's first psych hospital to get Magnet status no doubt LOL), been there 5 years and can't think of any other job I would love as much.
Hi, I am a Nurse from the Uk.
I feel like I am an intruder as the link says - chat for general nursing and I am not a Nurse working in General Nursing, although I did many years ago. I am presently a psychiatric nurse. I wonder if there are others in the forum who also work in psychiatry?

Hi Pete, I also work in the field of Pscyh. I work on an 18 bed adolescent psych unit. I've been there 5 years and don't see leaving anytime soon. I love this job, I can honestly say that my job is NEVER boring.
Hello my name is Cathy and I am a 44yr old (soon to be 45 yuck) with a husband and 3 children. I/we live in Maine. I have been working on a adolescent psych unit for the past 5 years, and love it. The hospital that I work at recieved Magnet status 2 1/2 years ago which was pretty exciting. I am hoping to sit for the psych certification exam in May, but I am pretty anxious about that. I took the NCLEX way back when it was pencil and paper. If any one could give me some test taking, anxiety reducing techniques I sure would appreciate it. Thanks.
